Liposculpture (Uposculpture)
The approach adopted to this technique is a conservative one, i.e. small volumes of fat are removed from well-defined areas in people who are generally in good shape.
Using these guidelines, this is an extremely satisfying operation, with dramatic results in many situations, including
(a) Face and neck
(b) Arms
(c) "Love-handles"
(d) Abdomen
(e) Inner and outer thighs
(f) Knees
(g) Ankles
Local and regional anaesthetic are often used.
The technique involves injection of fluid, including local anaesthetic, into the area to be refined prior to the actual procedure, the so-called tumescent technique.
This is an outstanding procedure with low morbidity and predictable results if patient selection criteria are strict and technique is sound.
Surface bruising will usually resolve in 10 to 14 days.
Pleasing improvement is noticeable within 7 to 14 days. The final result will usually be evident after 8 to 10 weeks.
Careful evaluation of the skin tone is required. The patient's age and the amount of fat to be removed from a particular area can and will influence the "tone" of the skin after the procedure and this is discussed prior to the procedure.

Nasal refinement
Nasal aesthetic surgery (rhinoplasty), in its many forms, is also performed at the Rose Clinic. The procedure varies widely from one patient to the other. Some patients require slight tip adjustment, white others require major hump removal and narrowing of the nose. Detailed pre-operative discussion and sketches are critically important to achieve patient satisfaction. Some patients may also require functional internal nasal surgery, which can be performed simultaneously.
The more minor procedures are performed under local anaesthetic.
General anaesthesia is more appropriate when major manoevres, e.g. fracturing of the nasal bones, is envisaged.
Major bruising and swelling is quick to resolve, but subtle swelling may obscure the definitive result for up to a year.

Breast enhancement
(a) Breast Reduction
This remains a most pleasing and satisfying surgical procedure. Modern techniques are directed at minimising scarring and more attention is paid to post-operative scar management.
Ideal patients are close to optimal body weight and non-smokers.
The procedure may affect breastfeeding ability and nipple sensation and these factors are thoroughly discussed in consultation.
(b) Breast Augmentation
This is an extremely popular procedure, with many satisfied and delighted patients. By and large, SILICONE has generally been "exonerated" as a pathogenic substance and by reports from the I.O.M. and N.A.S. commissioned by the American congress. Unfortunately local sequaelae of cavity shrinkage and capsule formation, which is usually evident as "firming" of the breast is still an unconquered frontier and will affect 25% of women to some extent and approximately 10% of women to a Severe extent.
The operation has many options and variations involving
- Incisions
- Level of implant placement
- Implants (surface, filling substance)
- Anaesthesia
(c) Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
This usually implies a tightening and reshaping of the breast and is often performed after the patient has had a number of pregnancies, or has lost a significant amount of weight. Generally a pleasing procedure, with little influence on breastfeeding ability and nipple sensation. Morbidity is low and recovery is rapid. Techniques are directed at minimizing scarring and more active post-operative scar management techniques are employed.

Blepharoplasty
Upper and lower eyelid tuck surgeryUpper and/or lower blepharoplasty, eyelid "tuck" operations, are pleasing, low-impact procedures which are performed as day cases
Local anaesthetic and sedation is extremely successful in making the procedure a pain-free and pleasant experience.
There is virtually no pain after the procedure. Bruising and swelling subside rapidly, although the last traces of bruising can linger for two to three weeks.
The procedure is generally directed at removing excess skin and fat. In cases, the tone of the lower eyelids needs to be corrected and occasionally, the tilt of the eyelids may require adjustment. Lower eyelid bags are often tucked back into the eye socket to guarantee a natural appearance when the patient is older.

Face and neck lifting
These procedures are often performed under local anaesthetic and sedation. The "Mini-Lift" implies a procedure with limited dissection. This is usually for a patient who requires correct on of minor skin laxity, whether it be of the cheek, jawline or neck. Liposculpture may sometimes be required with this procedure.
Full facelifts are performed using a multilayer technique, i.e. the deeper "muscular" (S.M.A.S.) layer is also tightened to reinforce the skin correction.
If necessary, eyelid correction (blepharoplasty) or brow-lifting procedures may be performed at the same procedure.

Botax injections and lip and frown line filling injections
Botulinum toxin is injected into frown lines and crow's feet. This eliminates muscular action responsible for those lines for a 3- to 6-month period. There is little risk and therapy is usually repeated as required.
Tissue fillers, including hyaluronic add, Actecoli and the body's own fat are also used for filling wrinkles and creases.
